UAlbany Women's Soccer Hosts Binghamton, Travels to UNH This Week

The UAlbany women's soccer team continues America East play this week, having its conference home opener vs. Binghamton on Thursday, September 28th at 7 p.m. then traveling to New Hampshire for a game on Sunday, October 1st at 2 p.m.

Men's Cross Country Ranked In Regional Poll

Following a 10th place performance in Boston in a field loaded with regional contenders, the University at Albany men's cross country team held on to their 13th ranking in the Northeast regional poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday.

Malekos Named Rookie of the Week

For the second consecutive week, the University at Albany has had a player named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Last week, forward Owen Fingar earned UAlbany's first Rookie award of the season, and this week sophomore defender Adam Malekos earned the honor.

Eli Mencer named CAA Defensive Player of the Week

University at Albany linebacker Eli Mencer, who returned a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown in overtime Saturday, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

ALBANY, N.Y.-- Field Hockey Score: #20 UAlbany 1 - #7 UNC 2 Location: Albany, N.Y. Season Records: UAlbany 4-4 UNC 9-2 Short Story: #20 UAlbany Field Hockey narrowly edged by #7 UNC 2-1 in overtime. In 90 degree weather, the Great Danes played an evenly matched game against the UNC Tar Heels. Katie MacCallum scored the first goal of the game in the 63rd minute. However, less than a minute later, North Carolina countered to send the game to overtime. The Tar Heels were able to produce the final goal off of two shots. KEY STATS · UNC just barely outshot UAlbany 17-12, with both teams receiving 8 penalty corners · Melissa Nealon recorded 9 saves, compared to a solo save from North Carolina's keeper · Katie MacCallum scored UAlbany's single goal from an assist by Dana Bozek.

St., LIU, Holy Cross, and Fairfield Location: Hanover, NH – Hanover Country Club Short Story: UAlbany Women's Golf places 2nd at the Dartmouth Invitational led by top-ten finishers Annie Lee (T5) and Helga Einarsdottir (T7). Each UAlbany team member finished in the top-half of the Invitational composed of 63 golfers.

#20 UAlbany Takes Down the Defending National Champion

NEWARK, DE—#20 UAlbany Field Hockey beat the defending 2016 National Champions the Delaware Blue Hens. The Great Danes put an end to Delaware's 17-game win streak at home stretching from October 8th 2015. Field Hockey Score: #20 UAlbany 3 -  #5 Delaware 2 Location: Newark, DE Season Records: UAlbany 4-3   Delaware 6-2 Short Story: The Great Danes strategically swept Delaware 3-2 in overtime. Melissa Nealon recorded 13 saves in the goal, orchestrating a tight defense that held off strong Blue Hen defenders. In overtime, Kelsey Briddell scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute with an assist from Anna Bottino. KEY STATS ¥ Melissa Nealon recorded a career high of 13 saves in the goal. ¥ UAlbany recorded a high goal percentage of .375 compared to Delaware's .105. ¥ Kelsey Briddell recorded two goals, while Anna Bottino recorded two assists. HOW IT HAPPENED The Great Danes started off the game heavily relying on defense. Melissa Nealon saved eight shots before any goals were put on the board. In the 30th minute, Delaware took an opportunity at the goal to place the Blue Hens ahead 1-0. However, the Great Danes flipped a switch. Less than a minute later, Kelsey Briddell shot her first goal of the season from 15 yards away, straight on. In the 47th minute of the second half, Delaware scored again on a loose ball off of the goalie pads. Once again, the Great Danes looked to tie the score. In the 56th minute Katie MacCallum scored off of a crossing pass from Anna Bottino. Both UAlbany and Delaware were unable to score for the rest of regulation. In overtime both the Blue Hens and the Great Danes recorded two shots. However, UAlbany came out on top with Kelsey Briddell's second goal of the game. The goal came on the right side, five yards away after a fake to make the final score 3-2.
