CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University at Albany women’s tennis player Irene Santos-Bravo was named America East Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, April 9, after helping to lead the Great Danes to conference wins over Binghamton and UMBC. The two victories, putting UAlbany at 3-1 in America East play, marked the first time the program has beaten the Bearcats and Retrievers since making the jump to Division I.
Santos-Bravo, a native of Madrid, Spain, won three of four matches over the weekend. Against Binghamton, the graduate student won at No. 2 doubles and then stepped into the No. 1 singles slot, earning a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win. Two days later, she won again at No. 1 singles against UMBC, 6-1, 6-3.
UAlbany will wrap up conference play at Stony Brook on Friday, April 12. The Seawolves eliminated the Great Danes in the America East Tournament last season, winning 4-1.
